Katy ServeFest 2013

Katy ServeFest 2013 planning has begun!  On November 12, we hosted our kick off meeting for Katy ServeFest 2013!  Thanks to all our volunteers and leaders who came helped us start the process of making Katy ServeFest bigger and better than ever before!  Registration is now open!  You can register here: http://compassionkaty.volunteerhub.com/Events/Index

If you do not get our emails and would like to be added to our list, please use this link and we will get you added to our list: http://compassionkaty.org/about/contact-us/

We are so excited about the many opportunities there are to serve our community, we will once again be partnering with the Katy YMCA at their Camp Cinco facility, and working with one of our new partners in Brookshire with a youth focused ministry called Hip Hop Hope- you can learn more about Hip Hop Hope by visiting their Facebook page (no account needed to view the page) here: http://www.facebook.com/hiphophope  We will also be out serving the single mothers, widows and elderly by assisting with basic home repair projects and landscaping.  If you know someone who fits one of those categories who is in need, please let us know so we can assess the situation and see if Katy ServeFest can help.

There are many ways you can serve and volunteer with Katy ServeFest, click here to read a description of our Leadership Teams and Katy ServeFest Event Day jobs: Katy ServeFest Job Descriptions.   Actual projects are still in development, and once those are more clearly defined, we will post a listing of the planned jobs so our volunteers can get a better idea of the scope of the jobs and where they might be interested in volunteering.  If you see an area that interest you, let us know and we will get you added to that team!  Our next planning meeting is January 14, 2013 at 6:30PM at the Katy Vineyard Link (615 S. Mason Rd, next to Fuzzy’s Pizza).

We look forward to serving with you!

Thank You Fall Katy ServeFest 2012 Volunteers and Partners

We had a great turn out at Fall Katy ServeFest on September 29! Despite the slightly rainy weather, we were able to complete many projects at 4 locations. There were more than 80 volunteers from 6 churches that came out to bless our community.  Special thanks to Holy Covennant UMC, Memorial Lutheran of Katy, St Peters UMC, The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch, Kainos Community church , Epiphany Catholic Church, Grace Methodist and Grand Lakes Presbyterian for helping us bless those in need in the greater Katy area.

Fall Katy ServeFest is September 29, 2012

Please make plans to join us as we Serve and Share in our community by blessing some families in need at Fall Katy ServeFest.  We are planning several projects at multiple locations that include landscaping and simple home repairs.  This one day project blitz will leave a lasting impact on the Katy community as together, we serve others in Jesus’ name.  We need people of all skill levels- from master carpenters to kids who can use garden tools!  Also, you can help by donating money or materials needed to complete the projects and further the mission of Compassion Katy.  Contact Diane@compassionkaty.org for more information.

You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ in Katy.

Compassion Katy Summer 2012 Update

Save the Date!  Fall Katy ServeFest!
Please take a moment to mark your calendars for our upcoming Fall ServeFest on September 29, 2012.  We are still finalizing locations at this point, but we anticipate being out in the community serving the elderly, widows and single moms by blessing them with some exterior maintenance work and landscaping.  You won’t want to miss out on this incredible day to Serve and Share with us!

Summer Volunteering
As summer beings, many of our Compassion Katy Superheroes are looking for a way to give back to the community.  Several of our non-profit partners have volunteer opportunities for all ages.  Katy Christian Ministries has jobs for volunteers 13 and up, Lunches of Love (located in the Richmond/Rosenberg area) has openings for all ages, and Home Delivered Meals of Katy, who delivers food to homebound seniors in the Katy area, also has openings for drivers (children/youth are welcome to ride along and assist), contact Sibyl Westenhaver via email at sibyl@consolidated.net to find out more about volunteering with Home Delivered Meals.

You may also find other volunteer opportunities by checking out the websites of our non-profit partners here: Compassion Katy Partners

Compassion Katy Updates
We are excited about the growth that has taken place at Compassion Katy in the past 6 years and can’t wait to see where God is leading us in the future.  To help us better help the churches, non-profits and volunteers, we are investing in a new Volunteer Management Program.  We are currently looking at several options and hope to move forward by this fall.  We are seeking donations to help us achieve this goal.  Currently, The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch graciously allows us the free use of their database software (which you may have noticed when you have registered online for past events) and we are extremely grateful for the use of this software, however it really doesn’t fit the needs of Compassion Katy, so in order to grow, we must change.  We anticipate the cost to be under $5000 (for purchase of the program and annual usage fees) and our goal is to raise that much money so we don’t have to use funds that might otherwise be going back to blessing the community through events like ServeFest, Leap Into Service and more.  We are truly grateful for God’s provisions for Compassion Katy through donations from the churches and our volunteers.  Thank you for helping us “Simply Serve” and “Simply Share” with our community.

Volunteer with the Literacy Council of Fort Bend

The Literacy Council of Fort Bend desperately needs evening volunteer tutors for ESL in Cinco Ranch.

By giving just two to three hours per week will help make a difference in someone’s life. The training is in Sugar Land, but we have several locations throughout Fort Bend County including the Cinco Ranch Library that need volunteer tutors.

If you have questions, please call: 281-240-8181
