We can always use volunteers in our stores. We love to have kids make encouraging cards to hand-out to clients. We also have some projects on our wish list that we can use a group to tackle. Whatever the situation KCM can usually find a way to make it work.

Karen Word has been using her time and talents for over 2 years at the Pregnancy Help Center. A Katy resident for over 30 years, she says “I get so much more out of helping than I give.” Acting as a receptionist among other jobs, she enjoys making strong connections with both clients and staff. Pregnancy Help Center affirms life by meeting the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of anyone affected by and unplanned pregnancy. Through out 2010 Compassion Katy is going to recognize some of the dedicated volunteers in the Katy area.
This month, we want to applaud Allie Hemming. Allie is a volunteer with Christ Clinic, she gives her time and talents as a translator for the clinic on Thursday nights when the clinic is open late to see patients. This past December, she also took time out to design and hand make several blankets to give to some of the patients. She is pictured above with Christ Clinic patient Virginia Estrada who was a lucky recipient of one of the lovely blankets.

This year Katy Christian Ministries has seen double their normal clients. Their clients are from all walks of life, some are even engineers. Now more than ever the Katy community is banding together to get through these challenging times. Steve Nordlander COO for KCM said that Santa’s Sleigh helped over 2,000 children, double the normal amount. The exciting part is that you – our amazing volunteers are the ones who make the difference. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

Breath of Life Children’s Clinic
This clinic is seeing many more children and adults than ever. If you would like to help they are always in need of financial donations.

– kleenex, hand sanitizer, colorful bandaids
– new unwrapped toys and $10 gift cards for teens (BOL gives a small new toy to each client through the holiday season.
Pregancy Help Center

– Shopping bags with handles
– Maternity clothes
– hooded towels
– crib sheets
Most urgent needs – volunteers to inspire life, life stewards. This is not a lightly held volunteer opportunity. Volunteers are needed, but please only those committed to serving.

KCM is always looking for volunteers to work at their various locations! Here are some of the opportunities that are always available.
Administration: Data Entry, mail-outs, receptionist, assist with Special Events and Annual Fundraisers
Social Services: Receptionist, Data entry and filing
Domestic Abuse and Sexual Abuse Centers: Advocacy – attend legal and/or court dates with survivors of abuse. Assist in filing of legal papers; help in delivery of such papers. Help survivor maneuver through the legal system. 24 Hour Hotline (After Hours). Meet survivor at Police Station, hospital, etc. Work with survivors in crisis.
Food Pantry: Sort food donations, bag food to distribute. Receive food donations. Bread Pick-up from assigned grocery stores. Weed, plant garden.
Resale Stores: Greeting and assisting customers, merchandising product, creating displays, maintaining floor appearance of merchandise, receiving, sorting and preparing donations.
Donation Center: Receive/sort/prepare donations for Resale Stores.

Resolutions Hospice provides palliative care to the terminally ill. We provide comfort and support to patients and families approaching end of life. Volunteers would be involved in patient care (such as companionship, reading to patients, playing games with patients, etc.), bereavement support, as well as administrative positions. We match our volunteers to their areas of interest.

We are a Christian based non profit organization that affirms life by meeting the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of anyone affected by an unplanned pregnancy. Do you have 3-5 hours once a week? Once every other week? Or maybe once a month? We would like to talk with you.
As a Volunteer with Heart you maybe assisting our guests with their shopping needs in our unique boutiques, or aiding our staff members with administrative duties, or inspiring our guests with the love of life through media or books in our Library. We also offer the opportunity of being a Life Steward and serving as a Parent Mentor, Life Educator or Intake Assistant.
With everyone’s busy schedule you may only have time to give when we have a special event. Our events include Strides for Life, Katy Rice Harvest Festival, Celebrations, Sanctity of Human Life Week, The Walk, or Baby Bottle Blessings.

Christ Clinic – Medical Volunteers Needed
Christ Clinic is attempting to meet the ever-increasing demand for charity health care in our community. While some of the licensed providers at Christ Clinic are paid staff, most of the staff are medical volunteers and together they provide both acute and chronic care to the Clinic’s patients. Currently, we are in need of medical volunteers including Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, and Physicians.
Whether you would like to volunteer 4 hours a week or 4 hours a month you can make a difference in the lives of many who need health care in Katy.
