Compassion Katy is organizing a volunteer team to join this relief effort this October 11th and October 18th
Please contact CompassionKaty.org to sign up. Participation may be for the entire three days, or any scheduled full day. We plan to leave from our church at 6 AM on Wednesday for Day #1.
Overview: The churches of the Bay Area have rallied together to help people clean and sanitize their homes. Working with www.ikeassist.org (the relief efforts of Clear Creek Community Church) and CORE (Christians Organized for Relief Efforts), and multiple local churches, volunteers are entering homes to do the dirty work of tearing out carpet, sheetrock and insulation. They are sanitizing the floors, walls, furniture etc, in order to help people get back into their homes so they can begin the rebuilding process. The magnitude of the work is overwhelming. The majority of the work will be at home sites doing debris removal and clean up on homes that have been flooded. Expect to get dirty. Please go to the www.ikeassist.org website for specific information and maps.
Two Ways to Help: 1) Be part of a team of Adult volunteers to work a few days. Volunteers will be housed in a base camp at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (a partner in the relief effort) and will provided meals, showers, a bunk bed (bring your sleeping bag) and the leadership to see that our volunteers time is well utilized. 2) We need financial resources to help those who are uninsured and underinsured. The resources will also help provide food, safety equipment and tools for the army of volunteers that will join our efforts.
Daily Schedule: Volunteers will be meeting each morning at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Nassau Bay (click for directions) @ 8:30 am and sending teams off from the Base Camp at Gloria Dei. At 8:30 am. we will have a brief orientation and then divide into work teams. Please plan to bring supplies from the list below.
