We’re looking for volunteers! The Katy Heritage Society has been protecting and preserving historic resources in the Katy area for over 30 years. It is important work and right now we have opportunities for new volunteers. If you’ve been thinking you might like to get more involved in the Katy community, make some new friends and do something important, we’d like to hear from you!
Current opportunities:
Docents – volunteers who work at the houses when they are open the first weekend of every month. Requires a commitment to work one 3 hour shift at least 3 times a year. You will learn about our local history, can sign up to do this with a friend and enjoy some time in our beautiful historic homes.
House Chairmen – this person is responsible for one of the homes. You will visit it regularly to check on inventory and let us know of any repairs needed. House chairmen also decorate their homes seasonally, rotate inventory and participate in special event planning. This is another great job for someone who wants to do it with a friend or two.
Newsletter – this person will write and mail our newsletters. We’ll give you lots of information and all the details on distribution. This is a great job for someone with a creative flair who is proficient with computer publishing.
Special Events Chairmen – Want to take on just one event? We have events at Christmas, Easter, July 4 and would love to do more. We’d like to bring back our free park concerts and are open to new ideas. Take on being the chairman one event or volunteer to help.
Katy Community Cemetery Chairman – We’re working to have this location listed as a Texas Historic Landmark. As the only link to our black history in Katy, it is a significant project that needs someone who will work on the paperwork with the state and help us raise funds to do more work there.
Writers – We submit an article of historic interest for publication in a local magazine every month. Do you enjoy writing? Why not sign up for this and see your name in print?
VERY IMPORTANT: We will also be voting on a new Board of Directors in November. If you have board experience, or just want to help with the governance of this great group we’d like to visit with you about this very important job.
Thinking you don’t have time? It takes only the time you’re willing to give us, and your work will be appreciated by the entire Katy community and thousands of visitors. Please consider getting involved with the good work of the Katy Heritage Society.
Please respond by email to katyheritage@aol.com so Katy Heritage Society can call you to set up a tour of the park and discuss your area of interest.
