Literacy Council of Fort Bend County July Tutor Training Dates

Tutor training dates for the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County have been scheduled for Monday, July 13 from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m.- 4:00p.m.  All training takes place at the Literacy Center, located at 12530 Emily Court in Sugar Land.
What does it take to become a certified literacy tutor? The main requirement is the desire to help adults enrich their lives by improving their literacy skills. Literacy tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor do they need formal teaching experience. The most important requirement is that volunteers be committed to helping adults change their lives by improving their ability to read, comprehend, and speak the English language. Tutor-training workshops are held every other month and attendance at all scheduled days of training is required in order to become a certified tutor.

LCFBC volunteers teach adults basic literacy on a one-tutor-to-one-student basis while English as a Second Language (ESL) is taught in small group settings. Students benefit from the individualized attention while tutors enjoy the rewards of helping improve adult literacy—the first step to improving family literacy.

Sixteen new Literacy Council of Fort Bend County tutors completed the May training workshop and are set to change lives!  Please volunteer and you can make an important difference in someone’s life!
