Literacy Council of Fort Bend County’s 19th Annual Wine and Music

The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County’s 19th Annual Wine and Music is scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at our new location, the Marriott Sugar Land Town Square.

James Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific is this year’s theme.  We will be jiving with big band music from The Billie Ledbetter Orchestra while relaxing on an island of the South Pacific and enjoying the wine!  John and Diana Null will serve as the event’s Honorary Chairs.  The Nulls have generously supported the Literacy Council in numerous ways in past years and the Literacy Council is excited to honor them.

Lead sponsors of the 19th Annual Wine & Music are:  Wells Fargo, Petrohawk Energy Corporation, The Wynne and Mary Geiger Foundation, Sugar Land Rotary, Pamela M. You will become a boondocker and escape into the lush world of the South Pacific with a World War II military flair.  Sample food from our Mess Halls from Extreme Pita, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Madras Pavilion Indian Cuisine, Cupcake Café, Swinging Door, La Fonda Mexican Restaurant & La Fonda de Venezia, Pappa la Rosa Flying Pizza & Restaurant, Aura Restaurant, Out of Africa South African Cuisine, Julie’s Cakes, Kona Grill, Pier 36 Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar, and Mi Luna Tapas Spanish Restaurant, as well as a variety of wines from The Officers’ Clubs.  You will island hop from Bali Hai to Diamond Head to Espiritu Santo.

The skinny is that Wine & Music was voted the Best Community Event by the Fort Bend Sun Readers’ Choice Awards in recent years.  Tickets for the event are now on sale at the Literacy Council office or on the website for $75/person (and remember food and wine are included in the ticket price).  Get your tickets before becoming A.W.O.L. for this event and miss the opportunity to relax on the islands of the South Pacific.  Hubba Hubba!

We invite you to become a partner in the Literacy Council’s efforts to help determined adults in our county change their lives by improving reading and writing skills. With your help, we will ensure that the Council continues its life-changing work within our community.
