Volunteers Needed to Help Serve Thanksgiving Meals

(from www.click2houston.com) Thousands of Houstonians will enjoy a free Thanksgiving Day meal thanks to the generosity of others. Two big events will feed the hungry on Thanksgiving. The 20th Annual Superfeast will be held at Sam Houston Park, 1000 Bagby, between McKinney and Allen Parkway. The City Wide Club of Clubs 26th Annual Feast of Big Sharing Feast will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston.

Between 15,000 and 20,000 guests are expected to attend the Superfeast, and 35,000 to 40,000 are expected at the City Wide Club of Clubs event. Both feasts will include turkey, dressing and all the trimmings.
Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Superfeast, and from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The Superfeast was originally set up for the homeless and less fortunate. But as a result of many people not having family in town or a place to go on Thanksgiving, everyone is welcome, according to organizers. All excess food will be donated to the End Hunger Network and shared with partner agencies.
A special children’s activity area will feature a moonwalk, arts and crafts, face painting, and games. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also arrive to take pictures with children at the Superfeast.
As part of this year’s Superfeast, Waste Management, Inc. is also holding a blanket and clothing drive at its corporate offices on 1001 Fannin St. and 1021 Main St. Through today, the company will collect gently used clothing items and blankets to be given away to those in need at the Superfeast.

Volunteers are needed to set up, cook, serve, wait on tables, distribute clothing and clean up at both events. Volunteers can work one hour, two hours or stay all day. Families with children of all ages are welcome to volunteer.
To volunteer or for more information on the Waste Management Superfeast, call the hot line at (713) 516-3501. Volunteers do not need to sign up early. They can show up at the event and register at the volunteer booth on McKinney.
If you are interested in volunteering for the City Wide Club of Clubs feast, please call (713) 752-2582 or (866) 510-2582. If you can’t come this year, but would like to send a financial contribution, send it to City Wide Club, P.O. Box 8446, Houston, TX, 77288.
